R. Aravind who is pursuing his 2nd year of masters in English, told that he chose English literature so that he can focus on many other streams, which the other students who are pursuing English literature couldn’t, and also that he can have less stress and less work to do compared to the other streams. His parents weren’t so friendly about his choice of pursuing english literature ,they wanted him to get into Engineering thinking that he will be well settled in a high professional job, rather than being a teacher or professor, because they got a fear that if he will be getting any job at all for this course. he mentions that all the people in the society are thinking that english major students only get into the teaching profession, but the real thing is the people who are thinking in this way doesn’t know the other side of this platform, the other opportunities this course helds. Aravind faced a lot because of the people in his surroundings, they told him that he will be in the job which is lower than theirs. His inferiority complex strikes in that moment, but he doesn’t care anything about it and he chose this platform anyway. His brother is doing engineering, so his inferiority complex again arises, but he says to himself that he is also studying something worthy in literature and he doesn’t personally take anything at all. He mentions that Literature only paves way for high salaries in the teaching profession. so he worries that he can’t support his family with a low income. If he does any other jobs like working in the call centre, the salary they will be paying for him is sufficient for himself but not for the family. people are not considering the essence of english literature and not the value of this degree. And his advice for the people who are willing to choose literature but they are struggling in their decision because of this society is to follow what their heart says, people might pull them down, trash them down, but they have something planned so they decided to choose this degree. some people choose this degree just to pass out their time, instead of doing that he asks just try to improve the skills by doing the content writer job and also he was hired in the call centre company and he is also proud that it is because of this course.
Sakthivel who is pursuing his final year of undergraduate , and they chose literature so that they can prepare for group exams and his parents were demotivating him by saying that they have made him to study in the matriculation school but instead of choosing some other courses which are in high level and discouraged him for choosing english literature, because parents are on the mindset that professional courses only held a lot of high paid job opportunities. His peers who are studying Engineering always used to say to them, that English is so much easier than their subjects and it is easy to pass. He considers that this course is only for women, because the content and the portions have so much of feminism contents ,and it focuses a lot on women. He mentions that English literature has a lot of job opportunities for a good future.
